Building a custom home is an opportunity to create spaces around your lifestyle, priorities, and vision. Understanding the steps ahead can make the experience feel more manageable, from your first conversation to your final walkthrough.

Here’s what to expect when planning a custom home with Cornerstone Construction.

1. Site Visit

The process begins with an on-site consultation to discuss your goals, review property conditions, and explore possibilities for your home. Sharing your anticipated budget, preferred timing, and inspiration photos helps our team understand what matters most to you.

You’ll also receive a preliminary budget range to help guide the next steps.

2. Pre-Construction Planning

This phase brings your ideas into focus. Depending on your project, planning may include custom home drawings, interior design consultation, a detailed construction estimate, and coordination of surveys or perc testing.

Our in-house drafting and design teams can help with layouts, materials, and finishes. This is the time to ask questions and make adjustments so the scope and investment are clearly understood.

3. Construction Preparation

Before construction begins, our team develops the project timeline, coordinates materials, and begins scheduling subcontractors.

You’ll meet your dedicated Project Manager and receive access to our project management app, where you can follow updates, view progress photos, and communicate with the team.

4. Construction Begins

Your home takes shape through site preparation, foundation work, framing, and installation of systems such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. Insulation, drywall, cabinetry, flooring, and finishes follow as construction progresses.

Inspections and quality checks take place along the way. Regular communication helps you understand progress, upcoming decisions, and any changes affecting the schedule.

5. Welcome Home

As construction reaches completion, we walk through your home with you, answer questions, and identify any remaining items needing attention.

This final walkthrough is also an opportunity to discuss the features and care of your new home before you begin enjoying the finished space.

Preparing for the Journey

Every custom home is different. Design decisions, property conditions, weather, material availability, and changes to the work can affect timing. Clear priorities, timely selections, and open communication help keep the project moving forward.
